Read somewhere (I forget where) earlier today that Andrew's gonna be busy with Land of Talk so he'll be replaced by Jon Fishman for that first run of dates.

Recent obsessions Chad Vangaalen - Soft Airplane (imagine Neil Young's voice over a one-man Pavement-esque band) Juana Molina - Un Dia (Argentine singer-songwriter, folk meets ambient electronic) Vivian Girls - s/t (a mix of shoegazey dream pop, surf rock, and punk, sorta Pixies-esque but prettier) ...

the Kevin Drew album grew on me a lot. I've hoped that the Canning album would do the same but it actually did the opposite--I liked it on first listen, but after the fourth and fifth listen, I realized I still couldn't remember any of the songs. just buried under a muddy mess of production. love th...

Wow, 50% markup. Live Nation are such fucking bastards. kind of sad that I have to deal with them even for Slip shows now.

Broken Social Scene on Halloween

I've got an opportunity to go see Broken Social Scene on Halloween in Montreal. however, this is one night after David Byrne, also in Montreal, and I'd rather not go to Montreal two nights in a row (and staying there overnight is waaaaay too expensive). and plus, I saw BSS about a year ago and was l...

I might get kicked out of Burlington for saying this, I never was able to get into Phish to begin with. never quite figured out what was so special about them, apart from the fact that they were good at their instruments. so I guess I'm indifferent to this news. now if only it were Pavement we were ...

I'm absolutely in love with that recording of Beggar in the Morning.

unfortunately I only got it to play all the way through to the end once, because the Myspace Music player is horrendous.

we got a copy of the new album at the radio station I work at. It's really, really good. I haven't been going much for guitar-based indie rock in the last few months but this has just grabbed me and I haven't stopped listening.

Almost certain there were no tapers in attendence. if I may put my stereotyping skills to work, the crowd seemed to be a lot moreso Sonya Kitchell fans who probably heard her on The Point, than diehard taper Slip fans. strong yuppie contingent in the crowd that evening.

saw the first show of the tour last night in Burlington. Brad's opening set was really great. unfortunately only about 20 people were there to see it. he played about half vocal songs, half instrumental songs from the new album. on all he was putting his loop pedals and effects to good use, adding a...

mixed feelings on this one. i really like the more experimental, dense tracks (Do I Have to Understand This and--holy shit--Heart Shaped Box) moreso than the solo acoustic ones, though then again Sarah Through The Wall is really cool. but that's mostly just my taste showing through, I've kind of bee...

Sigur Ros in Montreal

ahhh amazing show. the venue was just a stage set up on the edge of a pier in the Old Port, with an appropriately chilly breeze across the river and a stunning view of the Montreal skyline. the band played fantastically, they did a great job of recreating all the weird ethereal textures from their a...
