got the new Apollo Sunshine last night. it's pretty great. although I wish there were more longer guitar freakouts a la Lord or Phyliss on the last album. and WHY DID THEY DITCH BETTER CHANGE YOUR MIND. such a good song. and the whole utopian hippie vibe their lyrics have taken on is kinda schlocky ...

there's a show at Higher Ground billed as "Sonya Kitchell and The Slip". no blurb on the event page about The Slip though, only Sonya Kitchell. so, another vote for backing band only. so I'm assuming this won't exactly be Surprise Me Mr. Davis-esque in collaborative nature.

in a fortunate turn of circumstance, i came home to visit my family and friends for a few days and got to see Spoon at Lupo's last night. fucking awesome show, that band is so brilliant I can't get over it. can't decide if that show or MMJ is the best I've seen this year (and can't decide which of t...

if someone could Sendspace MP3s of this or any other High Sierra shows, I'd be forever in your debt. I don't have Internet at my apartment so downloading and web browsing can only be done in fits and spurts at work and at coffee shops (and my work computer doesn't have BitTorrent I'm afraid).

Apollo Sunshine - Shall Noise Upon

new Apollo album in early August! this better mean that they come to Burlington actually headlining for once. i've got three tracks from it, Singin to the Earth, 666: The Coming of the New World Government, and Money. Really like the dense, kind of psych-rock production to it--gives me high hopes fo...

05/02/03 Philadelphia - a mostly chilled out, relaxing sort of show
12/26/03 Knitting Factory - one acoustic set, two electric sets
08/07/04 Ice Cream Truck - kinda surprised this one hasn't been mentioned already
04/15/06 Fall River - for some Eisenhower-era goodness

nice! I considered this but decided I didn't want to deal with New York City on NYE. and hopefully there'll be a Slip NYE show to tide me over this year anyway. between the MMJ show I saw last week in Montreal and the one in Boston in September I'm hoping I'll see them play everything I want them to...

at Le National the sound was great for MMJ and good for most of The Besnard Lakes, but at the start the drums were way too high in the mix and very distracting. i didn't catch all of their set but it struck me as the kind of music that would work better on record, though it's tough to judge since i ...

Holy Fuck is the best band name ever. although i'm kind of surprised they opened for The Slip and not the other way around, aren't they kind of a big deal?

(sorry for the tangent.)

yeah the Montreal show was immense. though they played for "only" 2 hours there. the club was tiny though, it was about the size of the big room at Higher Ground + a balcony so I'd say it held no more than 1000...definitely the last chance i'll ever get to see them in a place that small. l...

liking the new MMJ a lot. Highly Suspicious is fantastic. My only complaints is that it gets a little too mellow in the middle--should've spread those slow songs out a little more. oh, and Thank You Too sucks. but apart from that it's great AND I'M GOING TO SEE THEM IN MONTREAL ON TUESDAY YES.
