Friday 9/26 Portland

Brad Andrew Marc & Sonya put on a very impressive performance last Friday in Maine. Unfortunately, Brad did not open - one of Sonya's childhood friends, Naia Kete, did - she was good, interesting. But despite a weak turnout, due in part to the weather, the show was spirited! Several songs stood ...

The photos at the link below indicate Andrew was on the kit earlier this month with Land of Talk in NYC. Wonder if he'll be with them on their tour with Broken Social Scene later this fall. Hope so, as I'll be catching BSS! http://www.brooklynvegan.com/img/music/landoftalk/mercury2/8.jpg http://www....

I like this album - some of the melodies are really nice, and the arrangements and production are top notch. It's awfully pleasant sometimes, but that's OK ya know? Not everything has to be a challenging listen to be good and enjoyable (Eisenhower being a great example of this point, but that record...

Sonya Kitchell & The Slip

This looks interesting! Is this breaking news or did I just crawl out from under a rock?

For Bon Iver fans: check out the videos here if you haven't already: http://www.newraleigh.com/articles/archive/bon-iver-bowerbirds-take-away-shows-video/ Three of the songs by the Bowerbirds (currently touring with Bon Iver) are pretty amazing as well, especially Bur Oak. Just saw the tour in Portl...

Bon Iver

Justin Vernon (aka Bon Iver) has a handful of really great songs on "For Emma, Forever Ago" -- the first three tracks and the final track are particularly fine pieces of music - haunting, emotive, dark but uplifting. Great, great melodies. The production is a little grassroots here and the...

That would be 1996, I think. Maybe 1997. At a Sunday (maybe Monday) brunch on Labor Day Weekend, I was in Allston visiting from Ann Arbor, and Albert Wing dropped in with a recording from the previous night's show in Providence. He immediately put it on and all I remember was some serious drumming a...

Yo Fourth Trane:

Can you tell us what happened with Portland?

Did the venue just bail on the show? Hope the guys will come back -- would've been their first show in the big city!

Part of me refuses to believe it isn't happening -- I might have to call down there in a couple of hours just to satisfy myself.

So, yeah, did last night get recorded?

Grrrrrr

What a disappointment! Would've been JFJO's first visit to Portland (or anywhere in Maine) and would've been amazing to hear the Life Effect! So what's the story -- the venue just pulled the rug out because they hadn't sold any tickets? Sounds jerky. Are there any recordings out there of the recent ...
