The Life Effect (Brad, Andrew et al) w/ JFJO in Portland, ME

Heard from the venue - the Station - that the JFJO/Life Effect show (9/27) might be canceled due to lack of interest. Ouch ! Think buying two tickets in advance would've made a difference? I only waited 'cause I had to make sure my 7-month old son would be able to go - just kidding (though he has he...

Wow

So far I've checked out The Avett Brothers, The Bees, and The Cinematic Orchestra. The latter two are new to me and especially impressive (and quite different from each other). The Avett Bros are definitely spirited and cool as well. I love getting these new recommendations. Has anyone listened to t...

It's wonderful to hear Nels Cline's influence on this album. He is an amazing guitarist. Interesting that he joined the band as an official member during the tour for Ghost is Born -- the second of two albums featuring a seriously avant garde direction to Tweedy's lead guitar work. Then Nels--an ava...

This is a great example of how hot and focused the Slip are on the current tour . . . and an example of great live sound production! The cool thing is that, well, my friend who recently joined me at the show in Portland -- his first Slip show -- sent me this link! A couple weeks back he bought the n...

Portland Maine 2-24-07

Wow! what a show. a tight, powerful soundscape of a rock show! Half the songs were new -- to my ears at least -- but sounded polished and potent! I think the setlist must have been fairly similar to the 2-23 Paradise in terms of the new stuff. Even Rats, December Kids, and Paper Birds were all in th...

I love this guy. I've checked out a number of his books (photographs of his natural art pieces). He's a total visionary. Love it.

I agree -- they must've had a sound check (right?), but still it's tough to nail a live performance of a single song taken totally out of context of a normal performance/gig! And I also agree re the vocals being dry in the mix. They didn't give him enough reverb! Of course we're all over-analyzing a...

site5 is super reliable and super cheap. we use it to host my office's website, which is a rather small and undemanding site, but we've never had any problems in 2 or 3 years and site5 is easy to access for html editing via ftp or through site5's own online web-based editor.

Thought I'd weigh in here. I'm certainly no expert and have a lot to learn about recording and music. But for the last few years, I've used Cool Edit Pro (first v.1 and now v.2) which is a great program. Until recently, I followed J Booth's approach. I ran a mike to my sound card's mic input on the ...
