Totally forgot J Dilla's Ruff Draft which may be the greatest hip hop record ever. Just got rereleased. Dilla died peacefully of Lupus on Feb. 10, 2006.
He had a mansion full of nothing but records and a hummer in the drive.

You should get all their albums especially Winter Hymn Country Hymn Secret Hymn. The new one is great but I'm not quite sure if it's on the same level as all the others- it was a where do you go from here type thing hence the addition of vocals (although the current Exclaim! magazine www.exclaim.ca ...

I listen to music and talk to musicians, and a lot of other people, for a living. That said while the Slip are my favourite band in the world the entire Eisenhower album and their whole recorded output doesn't hold a candle to even a single killer hip hop single right now. This playlist is the best ...

That It Makes No Difference is about the only good rendition on that album. It's a bit of a blasphemy actually. I'd like to see the Canadian version with the Sadies, Neko Case, Broken Social Scene, Apostle of Hustle, Feist and guests like I don't know say Levon Helm and Garth Hudson. It's funny I by...

Jade McNelis (Brad and Andrew session content)
I saw a festival in Kitchener, Ontario last night called Go! Music Festival and one of the headliners who went on before Apostle of Hustle (Andrew Whitman from Broken Social Scene's side project or main project.) Jade was a stunning woman and performer who held the audience in a thrall through only ...

I would never ever have agreed with you until very recently and now I also am really drawn to SMMD equal to the Slip. Nathan, who Brad told me is also a very good magician, strikes me as North Cali's Bob Dylan or being inspired by a certain almost vedantic or buddhist school of thinking (everything ...

It seems they have settled in to Wolof and Get Me With Fuji as their jammy instrumental numbers. This really bothers me. REALLY. I understand the bands need to stay creative but Fuji and Wolof strike me as particularly boring songs to listen to (I hate when they waste a chunk of the setlist) and I ...

Had a chat with the boys about songs like these when they were through Canada and I'm not holding my breath. They said they'd played Dogs On Bikes like six months earlier (and didn't sound like they were in a hurry to repeat). Johnny's sounds like a lost cause. Couldn't even run the betting line on ...

I'm still processing all this. The implications of television music placement for online music sales in a post-convergence world is sort of stupefying. Say what you want about the breakdown of the traditional advertising model. It's pretty odd to see them next to Sweet Child of Mine (which doesn't B...

I presume that's my buddy Pete's recording. I too find it odd that you can be listening to a live recording from some small town Ontario show wherever you want in the world. I've often found when they're playing these small out of the way places they often blow up large. How do you like the I Hate L...
