The spot Jason started in JP maybe 10-12 years back is The Haven, which recently relocated to a new larger spot and I hear some music is part of the plan.

Re: ISO miracle orchestra
Miracle Orchestra fans might dig Jared's latest work. He's has been prolific ever since the MO days, now heads the jazz program at West Virginia University.

Re: New Barr Brothers
Yes, that's my understanding. His latest records have some very heavy hitters from the NYC jazz scene playing on them. This is a reminder to me to add these records back to my to-listen list. https://andresvial.bandcamp.com.

Re: New Barr Brothers
I have also wondered about Andres' departure. It seems meaningful that he doesn't mention the Barrs among his past affiliations on his site, and they didn't come up in a recent interview I heard. Part of that may be that he's leaned way into his jazz identity but seems possible there's more to that ...

The Mobile Trio in Somerville MA, 2/8
Heads up that Marc will be appearing with The Mobile Trio, Sat 2/8 in Davis Square, Somerville. The band is lead by friend-of-The Slip Ben Schwendener on keys, and in addition to Marc the trio will include drummer Boey Russell for this show. Marc & Boey have worked the rhythms together a lot in ...

Re: Interview with Andres Vial
His time with the Barr Brothers does not come up in this interview. There's also no mention anywhere on his site. He does mention having young kids, and his performing now seems to be mostly in Montreal; maybe the Barrs' occasionally travel-heavy schedule no longer fit his life? Still it's weird tha...

Interview with Andres Vial
Others may be interested in this interview with Andres from Jason Crane's Jazz Session podcast. I've been curious to know what he's been up to since leaving the Barr Brothers and it's really interesting to hear about it.

Re: Barr Bros 12/5
I missed this run, but look forward to March in the Boston area. The pedal steel player Brett Lanier has been part of the band for a while, and I agree, great addition. Saw them play a shortish opening set for the Milk Carton Kids earlier this fall and was happy to see & hear the new harp player...

Re: Upcoming Barr Bros shows
The Barrs & co sounded great the other night opening for the MCK at the WIlbur. 6 or 7 song set, all familiar material, all or most from Queen of the Breakers. Lineup still included Morgan Moore on bass and Brett Lanier on pedal steel, along with new face Eveline Gregoire-Rousseau on harp & ...

Yes, just an opening slot, but a friend had an extra ticket & I can't make their December headlining show in the area (Providence). Looking forward!

Re: Upcoming Barr Bros shows
Going to see them this coming Wed opening for the Milk Carton Kids in Boston. It'll be the first time I'll have heard them live in the post-Sarah era.

Re: Sarah Page leaving Barr Brothers
Seeing them in Cambridge in late November, I was struck by how much *more* prominet Sarah was than the last few times I'd seen them. Her harp - while often with a heavily processed sound - was more up in the mix, she sang more often and more powerfully, and there was the wild electric sarangi thing....

Re: Is there any news on The Slip?
Marc is active on the Boston scene these days, and touring with Ryan Montbleu. Looks like BBs are ramping up again big time, so it seems less and less likely that a Slip reunion will happen again any time soon.
