I know that recordings of The Slip are OK to be torrented (except for soundboard sources, IIRC), but what about recordings of SMMD? I'm hoping to do at least the Montreal and Ottawa shows (and maybe Toronto, too), but haven't seen them before, and don't remember reading a specific policy.

Re: Distributing SMMD recordings?
Essentially the same deal for SMMD. Though there may be some changes. I need to get it sorted out but the new record deal for The Barr Brothers may effect things for that band. For now you can proceed as you are able. The band doesn't really like soundboard recordings to circulate. There is not much official stance or action. I would like to see the Canada shows recorded. If you want something to circulate plan on trying to make a good audience recording.
Re: Distributing SMMD recordings?
Yes there is no official policy per se but the agreement I have with them is not to circulate recordings with Soundboard or Multitrack sources without permission. Also in general it is a good idea to get permission from the band before taking a soundboard feed. Audience recordings are fine to circulate unless you get a specific request from the band not to circulate a particular show.
Looking forward to your recordings!!!! Wish I was going to the shows!
