eee's notes:
Here's the first night of the Slipping Daylights tour. I recorded from the board on this night, but Cocci's stage tape turned out great, and has a lot better feel then the senn/board matrix that I patched out of. The Slip and LD traded off who went first each night, and The Slip started this night. Great sets by both bands. Full capacity crowd that was really into it. Many of us Seattle LD fans were very psyched about this tour, so nobody missed this show. The Slip is one of my favorites. Brad is channeling I don't who, but he's scat singing while playing guitar almost all set, which is pretty cool. If I recall Cocci spread his 414's about five feet so one was right in front of where Brad & Jess both stood for their sets. The LD set is all over the place (jet lag maybe?), but really interesting. Mali Krumpiri goes all over the place. Funny moment at the end when Arne is requesting Arnesto to close, "I want to rock!". The Slipping Daylights set is probably my favorite SD set ever. The band is on and the crowd is loving it. I tracked the SD set just in terms of jam changes as I like to skip around sometimes, and those "titles" are purely of my creation. Alex, or any of you LD freaks who can identify what Jess is jamming at the beginning of track 2, which starts the SD set, I'd be psyched. I couldn't figure it out but it's familiar. Funny moment in this show - listen at 54:30 somebody from the club is telling them to "break it down" b/c it's getting close to 2am. The band blows them off (shocking) and at 58:00 the lights get turned on in the room, the crowd roars and the band kicks it into high gear to close it. What do they say about circular energy? The band was feeding off the crowd who were in a frenzy at this point. Definitely one of the best spontaneous finishes to a show I've ever seen. I'm going to do 11/15 (kjk's mk4's) next since I have two sources for 11/14 and I want to compare them. I think Cocci's 414's of PDX turned out better then the board, but I figure I'll give them a listen before seeding. Please leave those windows open for those coming behind. Enjoy!
