need some help identifying this discovery...

Post: # 21122Post tyler »

so, a few weeks back I was going through the CD bin at Recycle North, a thrift store in Burlington, and I found two Slip CD-Rs. one is a copy of the 9/16/98 show. the other is a mystery. it just said "Slip CD" written on it. I think it's a mix of different shows. it's definitely very old-school Slip, no vocal tunes on it, probably from the days when they all had serious facial hair.

anyway, I've uploaded it below. any help figuring out where these songs came from, and the setlist, would be good. Track 7 is Yellow Medicine, can't recognize the rest because my knowledge of early Slip is limited.

Thanks for the upload - I'll see if I can come up with any names for you. Tracks 1 and 3 are very short on your version too - right?

Track 4 - Ernie Mickey

2 is something that goes by "Firewater". It was played at the (now defunct) Fire & Water Cafe(?) in Northampton on 1998-02-06. I think it's just a jam. But a really really great one.

4 is Ernie Mickey from Scullers 2000-06-27

6 is Tempus, Forget It. Sounds like Andrew wanted to play Gecko but got shut down.

The YM->Aptos is also from Scullers. That guy screaming? That's me. :)

And what's this 9/16/98 show? I've never heard it.

And humor me here: These discs you found. are they silver Matsuis?

They are not, one's an Imitation, one's a "klone.com", whatever that is.

And I lied, the other disc is actually 9/6/98, which is a High Sierra show according to Slipbase. Probably in wide circulation, but I'll upload it if anyone would like.
