Did you all hear that the Dead are taken off the archive?

Haven't heard this one yet but hopefully it's good. There seems to be some tech diff at the show itself. Glad someone got this though.

yeah, it definitely sucks. i'm not sure how i feel about it exactly. my commie side says they should stay and whoever made the decision is a real jackass while my capitalistic side says it's their music and they have the right to make maximum profit off it. tough call...what's your opinion?

I assume it's Drew on bass but I haven't heard it yet.

As far as the Dead I feel simularly as you. There are so many factors.

I happen to have known some of the folks that worked for GDM before they were all fired in 1997. There has NEVER been any integrity in the GD's organization. Thay have ALWAYS wanted to make money off of the Deadheads, and have figured out many ways to do so. I am with MOke; even though I was at around 400 shows I have refused to purchase any GDM merchandise since Jerry died. I have been given some items as gifts ( shirts, dickspicksetc).
Ask any well known GD merchant ( Not Fade away, Liquid Blue, Dye the Sky) they will tell you all about how hard a$$ the GDM folks were about the licensing and how much $$$ they soaked these T-shirt guys for in licenses, royalties etc. The only reason they all forked over the money was that they knew they had a market. A market that was built steadily over the years by folks who mainly LOVED the music and wanted a way to earn a living while being able to see as much music as possible.
My point is that folks should be keenly aware that maybe the only people in the organizarion who cared about the fans was Jerry and Bob and Phil and Mickey. ( no, Billy NEVER cared about the fans- I have proof). When Rock Scully was forced out in 1983-1984 the whole business model changed and it was at that time that Cameron Sears began the long journey to fully realized capitilization of the Grateful Dead brand. I used to have good fellings toward GDSTix due to the mail orders, but if you think of it, that may have been the one and only way the organization ever "gave back" anything to the fans, and all that was was access to purchasing good tickets. Dennis McNally was a good person before he started working full time for the band, when he eventually turned in to a PRICK.
All I have to say is: F Deborah Koons, F Cameron Sears, and F the 2 people who placed their name on that totally disingenuine message that doesn't even have any official GD source. The folks at GDM are so afraid of backlash, they were able to convince some admins to fall on the sword for them.
NOW, come back at me with questions or flames, but these guys (GDM) have been soaking us for at least 20 years and I hope their archives wind up with the same fate as Bill Graham's archives.
Oh, BTW, I realize the taping community is so small compared to the overall fanbase, and as such will have very little impact on what the GDM folks decide and will surely not affect their sales in any way.
