what i've always done is decode the FLACs to WAVE format (like usual). you can then add the WAVs to iTunes (i assume you've got iTunes if you've got an iPod), and then you can select the WAVs and hit "Convert Selection to MP3" under the Advanced tab. in the Preferences of iTunes you can select the bitrate and all that that you can convert to.

I answered you in your other post. Right below this one.
to repeat:
On a PC you can use
Winamp with the proper
plug in to decode on the fly for listening on your PC. Or
FLAC frontend to decode to WAV to burn onto CDR or import to iTunes for an iPod. I also hear there is third party firmware now for iPods that allows FLAC playback as well as gapless playback. I haven't looked into that yet. You need to reformat the iPod which will wipe it. So back it up if you plan to try that out. There is other software out there too. Google might help you find it. I think there is stuff that can do FLAC> mp3 in out step.

I've found that if you're converting to mp3 in iTunes, there is a great program called iTunes-LAME that meshes very well with iTunes and uses what many people say is a better algorithm for mp3 conversion that what iTunes comes with. Only works on mac's, but if you've got one, I'd definitely give it a spin.

To go from Flac to .wav or .aiff on a Mac, I really like the program "xACT"

Also for Mac the program called Cog plays FLAC on the fly.

16 bit only I think.
