So Clinton.. you ran on stage mics as well as Audience mics?? Just curious... since I've been in a band that actively has tapers, I'm a lot more curious than I was before...

im going out on a limb here by saying, they are for crowd response unless its the earthworks that tend to point at the stacks

I answered in PM but will clarify...

In this case the mics onstage were to pick up the band, in other cases they have been used to mic the crowd alone. Having the stage sound can give a clean sound of the guitar, bass, and drums. The imaging is the same as onstage as well. You need the vocals, samples, and room sound from the mics at the soundboard too. If it were possible the soundboard feeds would be mixed in to taste as well making a sick mix. Sometime when the stage is small like this venue I get too much bass guitar in the stage mics. That does happen a fair amount on this recording.
