Hey!

Can everyone do me a favor? Check you copies to see if there is an Ernie Mickey after Rhythm-a-ning? If you do have it, would you consider extracting it, checking for flaws, and doing a yousendit or sendspace for me?

Thanks.

Wiccans on Wheels (10/31/98 - best show ever?)

I only have this in MP3 it appears (searched for alt sources, no luck, and Oz seems on the blink). d1t5 is definitely Rhythm-a-ning and the next one I have after that is d2t1 which is Owner of a Lonely Heart. I can't find a d1t6. d2 only goes to t5.

d2t4 is Stayin' Alive. Between Pretty Young Thing and this, Brad says "That's Dan - Dan..." [banter] then asks "What kind of Space Creature Are You?" ...then there's chuckling in the audience...then Brad says "Aright, want to step it back to the 70s... Now we're going to go to 1977 maybe? the year I was born. We've been trying to cover 83 - that's our year of target" then Jordi says "All of you lovely people are at *the* hottest party!" and they bust into Stayin' Alive. Very phat bass by Marc. Jordi (I think, maybe another singing falsetto) helps with the singing here. At 4:31 funky Marc solo w/Superstition tease at 4:50 or so. Andrew breaks into the toms, snare where Brad fires up some fed-back Wah (and volume play?), Peter on keys rollicking along all this time. 8 or 9 minutes in it gets real spacey, Andrew on cowbell and sporadic bass chops, chord fills from Brad, and the song turns into something very trippy...guitar and piano dueling it out with the bell and Marc laying down the funk. Now this builds in intensity for a few more minutes, then around 13:30, Brad's guitar gets real distorted, keys are very choppy and then....blammo at 13:53 theme from Ernie Mickey...and some real funked-up singing scat-like almost (could be Jordi here again...)...more funky keys but by 15:20 the Ernie falls back into the playoff between Jordi and Brad's guitar, heavy fast basswork and Andrew is all over the place. 17:00 the Ernie riff returns...18:11 what sounds like some Herbie Hancock light quotes...cowbell comes back in...20:00 breaks down to piano, sporadic drums and Brad doing weird shit, Marc with fast fills (talkin' bass)...then they are all scattered...22:40 Andrew doing rim-shot frills, mellow minor keys, Marc making picking noises, Brad jazzy chords, key rolls...almost classical keys at this point and Marc playing a very far-off sounding sad bass. Andrew has mallets at this point doing some....25:30 total craziness...smashing cymbals...fast arpeggiated chords on the piano...snare roll fast and low...then d2t5 they finally go into the Zion tease. At 5:50 into this it gets mellow and I think I hear Isaac's voice in there, but Jordi is belting at this point. Very nice keys here. Somehow I'm reminded of Bruce Hornsby (in a good way, like when he used to jam with the Dead). 7:56 Jordi still chanting and Andrew lays down an authoritative bass/snare/hi-hat steady riff, Stolzman really wails on the keys. Definitely at 12:00 I can clearly hear Isaac who sounds a bit far away (like he had an inferior mic or mix ;-}). Marc takes them back to the Zion theme around 14:45 or so...lotsa keys and Isaac and Jordi. Andrew is doing amazing percussion things in multiple times, rim hits, bell, etc...fades (mixed that way).

d3t1 is definitely Down Under (total Reggae Style, synth keys sound like killer flute)...vocals start a bit weak, and there's Isaac in there but someone else who may be Jimi (real low...maybe not)? Ok there's at least 4/5 people singing there...could be anyone.

Brad is right on the meloday with King of Pain, but the singing is...well...maybe way too loud in there for them to hear themselves (I'm guessing).

We get confirm of Isaac Taylor on vocals by Brad. "semi-transient space creature Dan-dan" ... "disco queen on the fretless bass...actually more of the homecoming queen on bass guitar...Mr. Marc Friedman"..."on the drums is a brother of mine / only takes his time / to play the rhythm so fine... / well keep time / to keep all time...???... (Brad raps here)" "Andrew Barr on the drums". Sh...shshshs...sh'ddddo.

d3t3 Marc drops a reality-check bass bomb as Spice Groove takes it down hard...major dark energy here...then Brad's wah fattens it up nicely for the slaughter that ensues. They kill it here...super duper...so spacey and dripping with key tingles. This is all but a preparation course for Brad's primo guitar while singing perfectly in tune. The keys really turn it into a major symphony here and all over this show, but goes especially nice with the Spice. Now Marc starts walking a line, drums barely framing it and the key solo (kicks in around 5:00).

WTF is that noise? Guitar? Peter seems too busy on the keys...oh it's gone now. Brad tries to bring the theme back around 7:15, but not everyone seems ready to kick back into the Spice rack. Finally a minute later they start to sync up...now Andrew works the ride bell a bit...no two measures are the same (barely similar, but there's a beat in there). About 12:00 there's a drum solo...very scattered...is Andrew tired perhaps? ;-} Now some very nice bass drum work, starts hitting harder...working on building up his energy...high-hat, snare, bass ferocity...drops...just snare. Sammy: "Alright boys" (a warning, or a prediction?).

Oh...that was why....now it gets ridiculous. ABC kicks in intense. You can hear the crowd in the back even over the loudness. Brad's variously cutting falsetto...someone shouts: "I think I love you" Jordi says "show me what you can do" and Marc responds with a smooth funk line, keys and drums kick it up to intensity level 9...when Brad kicks in the house is rockin'. The keys are perfect but definitely got a big mix. Brad's got a very fuzzed out guitar at 4:20, screaming at this point and you can still hear the piano crispy clear...Brad is going off here...ballz to the wallz then....kablammmmmo what the fuck just happened? That's how it ends???

Oh, just a teaser ending...dang they're tricky. And another ending. Ok, that's another fake ending. 123...do ri me...third ending is the last.

Brad closes with: "Thank you everybody for coming down...
helping us get it right ... umm... we're called the Slip and it's been fun having halloween with you. thank you for coming
What can we say we took our chances we had no idea
what to expect tonight and they say it's gone great.
Thank you once again to anthony and kathy
for letting us have this in their stablishment
and thanks especially to you guys,
for coming down and making it real.

Peter stolzman on the keyboards.
Sam leanoard running the sound tonight along with the
other guys from INL(?).
Joe dan dan...and...you guys.

thank you."

[audience claps, some tamborine shakes, "ONE MORE"....screams...
Sammy definitely says "ONE MORE"

"YELLOW MEDICINE"....long slow fade here as crowd realizes what just happened]

awwww....one more...

Brad finishes: "Happy birthday to Andrew the Space Man.
Thank you guys we have to stop at 1 o'clock.
Please drive home safe!"

*FIN*

8) Best show ever? I kick myself for missing this one. I don't even know what I was doing, but I'm sure it wasn't half as fun.

Yeah, so that's a long-winded answer and I don't have this on high-quality, but I'll upload the show in MP3 if someone wants to hear it.

Yeah, there should be a whole Ernie Mickey from that show. I'm pretty sure Booth recorded it too. I'll have to nag him I guess.
