05/08/1999: Living Room: Providence, RI
Set I: Invocation, Autobody Experience, Johnny's Tune, Spice Groove> Blues 102, Hey Worrier > Yellow Medicine > Tempus Forget It, 54-46 Was My Number (w/ Jimmy), Trane-ing, Illogical Path, Cumulus, Dogs on Bikes, Rhythm and Gold
Notes: Soulive opened (1st Soulive show?).

I was transfering a DAT of this show. Nobody on Phishhook or etree seems t ohave it. I'm just wondering if anyone happens to know who made the recording or how it was done. I can't figure it out. It sounds like it was recorded from a midrange only output of a crossover or something. Sounds like a soundboard, there is no low end at all. Basically sounds like it was recorded very strangly. Just curious if anyone had info, or maybe a copy that doesn't sound so weird.

I seem to recall Torph having a copy of this, or at least having put the Invocation on a sampler. That's the one where they do the quick part once and take everyone by surprise, do it a second time, and someone say "Do that again!", then right on cue they bust it? Usual suspects for that era include Moshe, Booth, Chrichton, and Fordyce. It's not on Moshe's list, I don't think it was on OZ. I can't find Jim's DAT list from those days, and given that he has always had the finest gear, I'm going to have to go with Fordyce, who made a really slammin tape in May '99, and also one in Mar '99 which was so bad it didn't circulate for a long time.

We'll probably find out that it was Andy Jenkins, using his classroom mini-cassette the whole time. Doesn't explain how it got onto DAT, but who cares?

Where'd you get this mysterious tape anyway, and when do I get to hear it?

I got the DAT from Jamie Fordyce actually. This one is better left unheard I think. It's pretty distorted and like I said before it has alot of weird issues. It has to be one of the worst slip recording I have heard actually.
