i wish i had more time, otherwise i would try to listen to old george and copy down the lyrics. i notice that it is not included on the list here.

a good place to transcribe them might be from the version up on the myspace page.

Slipsongs: Canonical list of titles for all Slip originals.

Old and new skoolers alike have had a hand in recording and archiving a huge, diverse and dynamic repertoire of musical Slip originals. Some of these songs are rare classics, others are widely popular new songs, many in the regular rotation. Sometimes if you're exceptionally lucky you'll have a song named after you or even get to name a song! How cool is that? :)

While digging through some vault tapes, Cleantone recently reworked the list for name fixes and added a bunch of new masterpieces as well as ancient rarities. This was overchecked by Jon Bahr and myself, many others in the Contributors list definitely helped clear up title confusion, grammar, as well as origination and evolution.

fka/aka notes help illustrate better. Many songs have complicated histories of both name and lyrics changes, as BAM experiments and tapers take the liberty of naming tunes that have no names. Sometimes they stick, othertimes the titles just seem to evolve, or by consensus. It's really the most dynamic song-naming situation around.

Alright, enough preamble. Here's the "Canonical List" for reference, so please make adjustments as you see fit and remember the Slip Covers are a whole different monstrosity altogether.

So here's my adjustments/suggestions (accept, reject, criticize as you will).

Air is the Body = "The Air, the Body" (so named on Live at Lupo's
Antiquity - AKA/FKA "Back Door Roast Beef"
Field No Further = "The Field, No Further"
Gilberto Gil - Is a tune loosely based on a song by Gilberto Gil, but I'd ask the boys for a name
Memories of You - may have only been played by Brad solo (does this count?)
Nebulus - isn't this just a slow Cumulus?
Paint Cans - should definitely have been named "Duck Sauce"

Question - What's up with "Ceremony of the Gecko"? I mean, there's a Gecko (the evil nasty thing where Andrew plays three with his right hand and seven with everything else), and there's Zion ("I will be higher then..."), but then there's this big floaty part in between (where Brad lies on his back), and is the floaty part part of Gecko? I've heard Gecko without it. And I've heard the phrase "Ceremony of the Gecko", but WTF is it?

Antiquity - AKA/FKA "Back Door Roast Beef"
As far as I know the band never endorsed that title. I recal a recording in which Booty yells that out as the band explains the song is untitled. BAM responds by saying they don't like that title.

The band probably hadn't endorsed a fair amount of these titles though.

so maybe it's 'BKA' (Booty Known As) BDRB?

Taken another step

Ok, then let's add your new acronyms:

AKA: Also Known As
BKA: Booty Known As 8)
FKA: Formerly Known As
SKA: Sometimes Known As
SBKA: Should Be Known As
WL2BKA: Would Like to Be Known As :)

...that will help get the song names straight over time. :-) [any others?]

I made the changes, as suggested.

The ", The" at the end gets weird with "The Air, The Body".

Should that be, "Air, The Body, The"? Way too much strange.

has brad announced an official title at any of his solo shows for that one?

The current official title is Shiver (I'm almost positive). I think I called it 5:00am when I first heard it. I'm no good at titles. I'm pretty sure an instrumental version is gonna be on Brad's record.

Well, there's of course "Get Me with Fuji" that was de facto titled by J. Booth when he asked to have his picture taken when they were all over in Japan (year?). That's the best-known fan-titled song, I think...but there are others. I haven't been so lucky (as far as I know), but when I hear Massachusetts to DC I think of my excursion around the same time (probably just a coincidence).

We could really expand this and add histories to the songs. Anyone want to get this going?
