i think its in CGCGCE.. could be wrong.

if it is, you're dealing with chords like 054000 042000 020000 550000 450000 004000 and the like.

if not..

try C, F, G/C ...
"(C) Hello, I'm a (F) Monster (G/C) too.."

then C, B, Am, F C
"and what (C) poisons (B) me (Am) is what (F) poisons (C) you."

its not exact so don't kill me. :-)

good luck, where are you playing?

ah i just found out the event got cancelled, i was just supposed to play in some small bar outside of campus for a charity thing
i was prepared to play a little neil young medley of the loner > cinnamon girl (in drop D its pretty sweet) off of the CSNY 4 Way Street album
and then i was looking to play a Slip or Brad song, i had a few worked out, suffocation keep or ooh belle
i just bought my boss rc-2 loop station so i was gunna loop the violin intro for suffocation keep
i wanted to play beggar though cause it sounds easier to sing, and i was gunna loop that cool background noise from the super little show
oh well
i appreciate the effort in the transcription, although ive never put my guitar into that C tuning
thanks again though

so you don't play suffocation keep in CGCGCe? I'm intrigued! surprised as well, since suff keep chords shapes in that tuning lend themselves to beggar pretty easily!

bummer your thing got cancelled! try to get a recording!

I have a line6 looper, and also a digitech Jamman. the line6 seems to never ever be able to keep time even if i play with a metronome making jamming with my brother on drums a pain, and the jamMan is a little tricky to use but has a built in metronome... i'm stuck on the looper things. But in terms of making a surreal background noise like brad does...

I use the line6, kill the volume on my guitar, and press record, and let it go for a few seconds. then i hit loop. so you have an empty loop... then ;ll get the tonic note or chord while the volume is still low, and turn the volume up slowly, so it loops the resonating chords and not the attack of playing it. I do that a few times till its totally full, then I'll do some little harmonics. the line6 has a button where if you tap it a bunch of times (it works better the more frustrated you are) it goes into reverse or half speed. that usually makes a nice little ambient noise loop for me!

this time change is killing me
peace

Thought I'd bump this because I finally found my capo and watched Brad play this live recently.

The chords he uses in the verse look something more like this compared to what I saw in the other thread:

(remember, capo is at 5, tuning is listed below but not relative to capo)

E|--------------------------
B|--------------------------
G|--------------------------
D|-----------5--------------
G|----7-----5-----7-------4
D|----5-----------5-------2

You can make the melody around the open B and by using the G string, too. Just takes some practice.

Don't know why I stumbled back to this but:
Capo 5

e-----------------
b--0h3-5--0---------
g--0----0--0------
d--0----0--0-------
g--4----4--4-------
d--5----5--2------

e-----------------
b--0----0----0---0------
g--0----2----0---0---
d--0----0----0---0----
g--4----4----5---4----
d--2----0----5---5---

Chorus
e-----------------------------------------------
b--0-------- -0---0---------------------------0
g--0-------- -0---0---------------------------0
d--0---0--2--0---0---0-2-4-2-0-------------0
g--4--------- 0---4---------------4-4-2-0-2-4
d--5-------- 0 --5---------------------------5

I was just fooling around with playing this in a standard tuning along with the recording of the BB show from a few days ago in Montreal and I believe it can be done something along these lines (caveat I am a total amateur and untrained musician):

Code: Select all

C Am
Steady Woman won't you come on down

Am G F C
I Need you right here on the ground....

and then

G C G C
I'm a beggar in the morning, I'm a thief at night

   F C G
My belt is loose and my trigger's tight.....
EDIT - I realized Bear had already done this, also good tab for the capoed version in this topic as well - sliplive/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2869
