Second Life anyone?
I'm thinking about building The Slip an island in Second Life. Hit me privately if you're interested.

So I finally went over there a few weeks ago and signed up, but I really don't get it......Is this a game like the Sims? Or I thought this was a social networking site like Myspace?
It seems really complicated and they navigated me over to Paypal and wanted my acct. info. Like I'm going to pay to create some fake world.....
What the hell is the site all about?

what i hear is like your making virtual reality people sorta like the sims but you could code out like a car store so people want to buy cars, and you like make the cars out of nothing because you code them but people buy them for a lot of money. or you buy an island and code it to make it real pretty then sell it for more money or like have developments on the island...

To learn about second life read Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. Oddly enough second life is inspired by and endevours to be 'the metaverse' from the novel. I agree with Deisel about the apocolypse thing. Read the book pretty frightening alagory.

Diamond Age
Snowcrash is cool (and so is Neuromancer), but if you want to read something scary, check out The Diamond Age. This is about a probable future of nanotechnology. Some of Stephenson's predictions are already in the works at various skunk labs in a few technologically-advanced countries. The novel also deals with social issues as well as having some great characters and is one of the best "hard" sci-fi novels out there.
