RIP Jim Crichton
It is with deep sadness and regret that I must pass along this tragic news...
James Crichton Jr of Pleasant valley NY passed away last week at the age of 49 years.
Jim, my Cousin and friend, was a long-time Slip fan/archivist and one of the nicest guys I’ve ever known.
God bless you Jim.
Love,
…Matt

Re: RIP Jim Crichton
Oh my god. I was just recently thinking about Jim. I'm really taken back by this news. Far too young to end his ride. I hope he was not in suffering. I have a lot of fond memories of Jim. As you mentioned he was indeed one of the nicest guys out there. He was always in a great mood and ready to rock. He was a hero for recording an epic era of music from a variety of bands. Though it was far too long ago I'm glad the last memory I have of him was sharing a great meal together before one of the NCFTA shows in Fall River. If only I had known I would never see him again...
It's probably not appropriate but if a caretaker is needed for his recordings, let me know.

That is awful news. I never knew Jim personally but have enjoyed many of his early Slip Recordings. 49 seems way too young. My condolences to his family and friends.

My condolences, terrible news. I met Jim once at a show in Albany i believe. I definitely remember his recordings back in the days we traded tapes.

So tragic! Jim was the greatest guy - he had a love of music (esp the Slip, any bands that defied labels) that was truly contagious. His memory lives on in the shows he so painstakingly and skillfully recorded for our posterity, brothers and sisters...Jim was part of our inner Slip family. The music and moments will live on in our hearts and memories, thankfully, and luckily ... he made our world a better place and we all owe him a huge debt of gratitude. Jim, I will miss you, man. I hope you're listening to some great music up there, because you surely knew how to find it down here!!!!

Re: RIP Jim Crichton
wow, I'm shocked. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
I met Jim when I was a wide-eyed 17 or 18 year old....approached him after a slip show at the iron horse and asked if there was any way I could get a copy. He could've blown me off, but instead he kept in touch with me and ended up burning to disc a ton of shows, and provided the seeds for the shortlived lumpy.etree.org (a slip ftp site...).
We met up at shows for the next 4 years or so and was always so nice. Thanks Jim for fueling my love of music.
