whats your list of five songs by the slip that you think have the best lyrics?

1. paper birds (sometimes simplicity is best)
2. sometimes true to nothing
3. children of december
4. tinderbox
5. suffocation keep

order is not really important cus i love a lot of them equally...

Hard to choose, but I can easily say that the lyric that affects me the most deeply is "Through the Iron Gate." (Is that the official title? Does Lazilee fit in there somewhere?) Stops me in my tracks every time.

I'll second (or third) the motion for The Shouters.

The other two that slay me are Nathan tunes:

Ambrosia Drunk
Before You Were Born

but I've said before I think Nathan is a lyrical genius.

To round out the list of five I vote for......

YELLOW MEDICINE!!

Because it's such an easy sing-along.

it's interesting that almost all of these songs are from older slip albums. very few eisenhower tracks on these lists. but i agree with that. these seem to be good lyrics but not near the level of some previous songs.

More of the recent ones for me:

Suffocation Keep
Paper Birds
The Shouters, of course!
Fear of Falling
Chasing Rabbits
Airplane Primative, except for the Dylan Thomas line, everything else, yes.
Let there be Horses
Soft Machine

And there are a whole bunch of SMMD ones, that I didn't include here
