Alright guys.. I need some serious opinions.. (don't know that I'm going to the right source there..
)
I just got my bonus from work and Pam and I are going to get a laptop.. I've been shopping around for deals and I am just curious on what you guys think of certian laptops.. all opinions, good, bad, indifferent are appreciated...
Brands I'm looking at..
Gateway, Toshiba, Dell, (I think that's it for now.. but any input even other brands other than apple.. not a huge mac fan)... thanks!

Macs are expensive, but they're a good investment since they are pretty much virus-proof, and are compatible with everything.
I have a Toshiba, $500 laptop that only serves as a work computer. it does Microsoft Office, IE, itunes and a couple other things. it's definitely slow when everything is running, but for the price, it's all i need and i couldn't ask for anything more at this point. come back next week, and it may be dead. i've only heard bad things about Dell. other than that, that's all i know. my next computer will be a Mac laptop in a couple years.

Now you're talking crazy. Pearls before swine?
A friend at work runs OSX and then virtual Ubuntu and WinXP using Parallels.

buy a mac and never look back!
i know it's scary if you've been using PC for most of your life. it's uncomfortable getting used to new things. but i know SEVERAL people who made the hesitant switch and they are all so so thankful that they did.

This is pretty funny that mostly everyone is suggesting a mac, even though that was Pat's pretty much only direction.
I too am curious what things you dislike about a mac though...
I've been using a PC for probably around 2 decades, starting out in dos (I'm only 26, but my dad had a computer in the house before I was even in Kindergarten), and even though I felt very comfortable using one and could solve most problems - I made the switch to mac a few months ago and absolutely love it.
I got a macbook pro off of the apple.com refurbished store (the latest edition) and am very impressed....what was actually great for me is that if you choose mac - your choices become drastically reduced, which helped with my problem of analyzing the dizzying array of options.

1) there way too expensive
2) personal preference...
I ended up getting a sony vsio (I know I didn't spell that right) and I'm more than happy with my choice.. thanks all!
