Portrait of the Scientist is becoming one of my favorite tunes. Lately, it's been triggering all sorts of associations for me.
The chord changes during "A rocket pad..." (the latter part of what I think of as the verse) are straight out of PG's playbook. The tune sounds like it could have come off one of the first two solo albums.
Also, the instrumental break in the middle at times reminds me very strongly of The Earth Will Dissever... and at other times feels very Aptosian to me.
BTW, I wonder if PG's first 2 albums could be considered post-rock? Back in the day we just called them "wierd as shit in a good way."
