Sneaking the Slip into BrightonMusicHall: Woods & Kurt Vile

Hello board,

So... I was super pumped to see WOODS and Kurt Vile @brighton_music (maybe my favorite local venue - best bands) (Boston)

We drive over from Cambridge and I drop my friends off in the front to grab tickets while I go park in the back. By the time I start walking around, i get a txt "soldout" > I proceed to come around to the front of the venue and I see my friends standing next to Andrew, Mark (w/date) & Brad (they are clueless). I go over to say hello to the guys and find out they can't get in either. I talk with the ticket girl (me: "do you not know who they are"), but no dice. So i grab my ticket @ willcall and get my entrance/alcohol bracelet and walk a few steps past security. The security got busy with the next group and I "notice" a bunch of bracelets on the counter, so i take them (ssshhhh not a bad person - opportunist for music, plus I had to get my friends into the show). I walked back out of the venue and gave bracelets to my friends, a bunch for the band and two to some hipster couple who walk around the block with me from the parking lot and look really bummed out about the ticket fiasco. As a group we walked back around to the rear entrance of the venue, hung out for a minute with the smokers > some folks may have had a puff or two and we walk into the show!

{Side Note: The Slip plays @ the MET (PVD) on Saturday!} Q: Anyone from this Board going?

The night continues...

Opening Act: Woods - they flat out stole the show for me. I went into this night excited for them and they did not disappoint (psych jams). @woodsist on twitter (brooklyn, ny) - although you probably already knew that
>
**Sessions in the parking lot**
>
Main Act: Kurt Vile & the Violators - unique, loud, really cool guitar effects on an acoustic (I know nothing about instruments, effects, pedals, etc... I just know what i like) - IMO Kurt was really good, not great, but this was my 1st time seeing him, so take it with a grain of salt.

Overall a great night of music, and now I'm on the guest list for the Slip show on Saturday!! (gotta love reciprocity) - yay free shows!

Later,

Adam Icculus

great story. also great to have you on the board dude. cool that you managed to pull a move like that.
you hear lots of bands saying they're too busy to go see/check out new music, but i guess BAM are different (probably cause they live in MTL where theres tons of music to see). when Barr Bros were in Toronto for Canadian Music Week I kept seeing brad and the band all over the city at different venues just checking out cool artists.

enjoy the show at the MET. hope you can post a setlist!

Seems like the guys are always checking out music. When they're the opening band they often are out in the house for at least part of the other acts. A lot of other bands I know just hole up in their green room and party until after the show. Same thing at festivals, I often will see them out and about seeing music and having fun.

That's part of my appreciation of the band. There's nothing better than being able to talk cordially to the people who inspire you. Makes everything that much more 'real'.
