It does seem that the only way you can make money in music these days as an act that is filling anything smaller than arenas is by touring constantly, selling as much merch as you can, and keeping the public interested by always having new music/publicity. The brothers Barr seem to eschew this model entirely, at least from 2007 on.
Funny that it comes up in a formal interview. But I wanted to comment that, although I'm admittedly oblivious, I've heard of Brad doing certain stuff in Montreal. He seems to be able to get sort of "session" gigs, he was doing that AC/DC tribute, they hosted the Beck Songreader event.... On the surface, it sounds like he's made a good name for himself, and I can only imagine the same of Andrew, too. I hope they are indeed holding up pretty well.
