BTW, on the web, you sort of never know who's viewing w/o doing IP trackdown in the server logs, but if you're on a public site, Google bots and others will find your photos regardless of how you copyright them.
You can then create obscuring index.html files or robots.txt (and other methods, like webserver access directives). However, even robots.txt can be circumvented (but it's a good start to prevent the search engines from finding your work--I use this on phrazz.com as well as IP blockers). I found your WWPV photos via Google, but maybe that's OK w/ the copyright notice?
Also, by resizing before posting you also prevent originals from leaking out. This is one method I use. Plus, many originals are Way Too Large [TM] for general consumption (one photo can be 5 MB or even more).

Kaite, I also have a suggestion. If you have a good graphics program like Photoshop you can add an opaque copyright notice to the bottom of every picture. They can be hard, for some, to edit it out. If this is an option you would like to look into but don't know how, let me know and I can give you a hand...

Jeff, thanks... I've thought about that but I always feel weird about how they look... maybe I will on the public posts.
Phrazz, the web hosting I have for my full gallery has security options that allow you to determine how public/private you want your webspace to be. I can password protect albums if I want to, but right now it's set so that you cannot search for the page, not even within the website, you can only get to it if you have the URL. It's been that way for a year and I haven't had any problems. I'm not worried about people snarfing pictures, cause I know it'll happen anyway, but by making a statement and showing an effort to protect ownership it would help hold up my copyright legally if I ever had to. (Sounds silly... but really, all you have to do is say you created something and you own it and it's protected by copyright law... so, I just make the effort to say it! And I like to know who has direct access to my work so it's less likely to be taken anonymously.)

Jeff, In order to sue for copyright infringement you must register the copyright with the government sometime beforehand, by sending forms (and $30) to the library of Congress. You could then attempt to get an injunction to stop them from using it, and claim monotary damages in federal court if they made any money from your copyright, or if you could show they were hindering you from making money from it.
I wouldn't know how long it would take to sue someone, as it would probably never get that far... most settle out of court eventually. But pretty much it's just a matter of using the law to deter someone in the first place and scare them from messing with your creation or trying to make money from it. Because the law states that you don't have to register a copyright to be protected by it, you simply have to show that you own it and are actively trying to protect that right, and you are protected under the Constitution (and there are even tougher International treaty regulations)... which will usually scare someone off, if you simply envoke knowledge of such laws.

Yea that's kind of the assumption I was under. I agree with you about the copyright info embedded in the picture. I always liked a clean looking picture, but it's a good deterrent. I get a little worried about some of the graphics I make. Considering I might work a good couple of hours on one graphic and someone can just pick it off of the web page. One of the deterrents on the SlipServer page is not being able to right clicking, but that also is crap cause the person can just take a screenshot or even pull the graphic out of there internet cache. I really shouldn’t be concerned considering I have imitated others work. I guess what it comes down to for me is, if someone is getting notoriety or income from my work, I am probably going to get pissy. Just got to watch I am not a hypocrite. Thanks for taking the time to post the info and your pictures…..You can MOD out the post I made above with the picture if you want…

Don't remember what Brad was playing, it wasn't a whole song, though it sounded familiar... It was probably around 3:30 am and most people had gone or were leaving... and he just sat down and played for a minute, maybe two. It was definately not taped. Only the 5-10 people standing right there even noticed, and I don't think he even noticed me snap a picture.

I like this one a lot. Those late-night off-the-cuff shots are often some of the best. I like seeing shots of people just hanging out.
