i returned from a 4-day long trip to coachella.. not sure if any of you cats subscribe to letsetz letter... if you do, you'll see that bob published a response I wrote (along w/ a hundred or so others).. anyway, despite my unflattering synopsis of the coachella VIP area, there were some pretty rad moments ... has anyone seen/heard Dungen? those swedes sure know how to kick it.. they are playing stoner rock for the ages.. all sung in their native tongue ... cat power was friggin' AWAOME! My Morning Jacket blew my head off for the 3rd time. Wolfmother made it sound like 1977.
A confession: I loved Depeche Mode's set. no joke: those guys are veterans of the big-concert experiece.. holy shit i thought i was in europe rolling tits like it was 1999 for a sec durring their show. anyway, if anyone did read my response to lefsetz, i wasn't knocking on ALL hipsters and LA trash... just the ones that deserved it. I may be banned for life from all future Goldenvoice events, but you gotta speak your mind once in a while...
Anyway, after wallowing in SF with exactly 0 days of sun in march and most of April, it was nice to kick it in desert for a few days and get some of that good sun back on my skin... Madonna is still hot as shit, btw...

awesome. i read some mixed reviews about the event but most expressed the same sentiments about MMJ and depeche mode rockin' out.
i got tix to see dungen in a month and i'm pretty psyched for the opportunity to see those guys freak me out. i was made hip to ta det lugnt last october and that remains one of the best musical suggestions anyone has made to me in a while. glad to hear cat power didn't have one of her notorious meltdowns too. hopefully she can keep her head in the game so her upcoming show in DC goes on as scheduled. madonna may still be hot but i'd take chan over her any day of the week.

Dude, I get the Lefetz letter and I saw a response from Gadiel and then right under it I saw yours......Lefetz is OK, I agree with some of his shit, don't agree with a lot as well. Regarding Coachella, I don't know what his problem is, it seems like a cool fest. If I ever make it out to the left coast I'll definitely hit it up, but not before I finally make it to High Sierra......
Give us the Teachings of His Majesty, we don't want no devil philosophy.
yeah, i agree w/ bob's basic summation of coachella: that coachella is all about the marketing. but what isn't these days? as far as the music, there was enough good shit going on to keep me happy the whole time.
what got to me, as you read in my letter to bob, was the LA scene that dominates that festival. it was really ugly and plastic.. especially in the VIP areas.. As far as High Sierra vs Coachella, you're talking apples and oranges and I would definitly head to HSMF before doing the whole coachella thing, especially if you are picking one over the other. bob is right (even though he wasn't there) when he said coachella isn't really about the music. there was good music there, but you had to see all of the intense marketing that was going on.. i mean, fuck- they were giving away cartons of Amercian Spirits to anone who would take them. I quit smoking back in November and here I was walking around with a carton of smokes! they nailed me.
they did have cool things that I've never seen at festivals, such as a cell-phone charger booth... doesn't everybody's cell phone always go dead at festivals?? they're on it. all so you could recieve official coachella text-messages every 5 min. durring the festival telling you what you could buy and when Madonna was going to be playing. jesus. i actually like it when my phone goes dead and i can forget trying to make phone calls at the same time as a thousand(s) other people in an area w/ poor service....
anyway, headnug, so you read my rant.. at least I'm on the record saying LA blows. And does too much blow. seriously, i think i'm blacklisted.
