after listening to Z all last week, i decided it was time to check these guys out. i'd heard about their high energy live show, but i wasnt really prepared for this. these guys kicked ass, so much so that my head still rings. the new songs sound great live. i think they opened the show with the first 3 tracks. the new guitarist didnt look new to me. the guy played slide, pedal steel or lap steel (couldnt see), and sax. the keyboards had all kinds of sounds comming from his corner: organ, piano, i think some violin. and then theres jim james, rockin out like a psychotic side show bob and croonin his sweet reverberating high pitched voice.
do yourself a favor and check these guys out if you havent already.

I read an interview with the band in Harp Magazine (really good music mag btw) that said the former guitarist and keyboardist left the band either late last year or early this year.

every person i see that has good taste in music, i try to bring up MMJ. some know them, so dont. fuck, i didnt really know either beside seeing them on conan and listening to a couple of their live sets. but, i gotta say their show was fucking crazy. one of the most exciting / energetic bands that ive seen. the new album is awesome, and they pull off the new songs to the T live, and rock the shit of out them.
I saw built to spill earlier this year, hoping to get blown away, but it took this band to be most rockin show ive see this year. ok ok i did see lake trout earlier this year.

nice one, diesel! i would love to see those guys, just for the second part of 'off the record', to see how far out there they take it... listening to the album makes me think they could stretch that way out and mutilate faces with it.. thick and spacey, i love it!
re: built to spill - hoping to catch them for the first time this april in buffalo... first time in the 7 or so years i've been a fan that they've come that close to me NOT on a weekday! has to happen... been a long time comin'...
