I NEED the Slip to come to ASHEVILLE, NC

Post: # 10906Post caramel0 »

I was born and raised in Providence, RI. I GREW UP listening to these guys and I ADORE them! I moved to Asheville, NC which is the PERFECT tour spot (the Orange Peel is the PERFECT venue!) the people here would love them (and lots probably already do!) so where ARE they? How do I get them here?! please help, I miss seeing them live SO MUCH!

Sad without The Slip,

Carrie

They have played there before. I highly recommend spreading the word to the local music listeners. Maybe handing out some good recordings at other shows. Or just turning people on. Then nag BAM about it.

They came to the orange peel about 2 years ago. Maybe 15 people showed up. All of the south east shows I have been to were pretty empty except for Raleigh. Can't blame them for not comming back to the south for the last two years.

Another suggestion: spread the music and stir up interest at local colleges. I know there's a few around there.

The last show I saw the slip play in the southeast was in Atlanta at Jake's Roadhouse (now Jake's Toadhouse if it still exists) a few years back. Terrible venue, but a great show. It's kind of a jamband/sports bar, and there were video games making noises all over the place throughout the place. The room was full though. I know they've played Atlanta and Athens since then, but I no longer lived in Georgia when they came through.

I'm back though, and have several friends who also love the slip. If they were to play in Athens or Atlanta, I could bring a good group of friends.

And it's a double edged sword, as far as crowds go. If no one comes to the shows, how do you expect the crowds to get any bigger if you only play there every three years? There is definitely a market for the Slip in the southeast, but it's up to The Slip to find it.

The Slip's music takes more than just a few listens, so even if I throw a cd in at a party hoping to turn a few people onto the band, it's not going to spread quickly, especially in the whiskey swillin South. I'm curious to see how a good sized Athens crowd would respond to the new sound of the Slip. The 40 Watt would be a perfect venue for them.
