Very psyched for Marco Benevento Trio. Dr. Dog also... Other than that not a whole lot, Steve Kimock and ALO will be fun... Fareed Haque is a personal favorite. Glad the Wailers will be there, I often think High Sierra needs more reggae.

I am sure they will add some great stuff but really I only need a few bands to get really excited about. Of course other cool things will be happening at camps... But I am sure they will add some heavy hitters as well as some sweet smaller acts.

oi, well i'll probably get my head bitten off about this one, but one thing i really love about high sierra is the conscpicuous lack of reggae. not that i won't probably check out the wailers, i'm just sayin...

nods on the marco b trio, i will definitely check out kimock (though he's never really gotten me off before)... ALO is fun, i saw them again recently when they came through w/ big light.

i just checked out dr dog on the web (hadn't heard of them at all), sounds like they will be cool... anything described with the words "psychedelic" and "60's" generally floats my boat pretty well.

fareed haque looks intriguing as well, definitely. had never heard of him either.

yeah... there are names on the list that i've seen before and love (ani, dm3, galactic, etc)... maybe i'm just subconsciously bummed that the mother hips were turned away. and that i hear shady grove stage and one of the late nights will be closed.

high sierra is always a good time, and part of the joy is discovering new music... lookin forward to it

I wouldn't like a lot of reggae but a bit would be nice. Often High Sierra has too much bluegrass for my tastes but this year doesn't look too bad. Don't get me wrong, I really like bluegrass. John Hartford is one of my favorite musicians ever... but too much bluegrass starts to bug me.

I had heard that about fewer stages as well. From what I understand they are trying to fool with the formula a bit to make it work better and one of the things they wanted to try was fewer bands. I've always thought HSMF is generally an embarassment of riches. Most people can't see music 16 hours a day every day, they need to sleep, want to get food, hang out with friends, go to other parties, etc. Obviously I hope they don't cut the bands I want to see, and looking at Pollstar it looks like we may have Slip & Davis one day only which would suck... but hey, it looks like we get 2 days of Marco which is good...

huh...
to me the richness and abundance was what i loved about high sierra...
yeah, maybe most people can't see music for 16 hours a day, but it's the *options* that are appealing. some folks rise early and go to sleep early. others rise late and stay up late. some folks crash in the middle of the day. shit, some of us are working part of the day. it's the fact that so much was going on from 10am to 2 or 3 or 4am that made it feel like no matter what time you were out and about, there was always plenty of choices.

we'll see how it goes. personally, fewer bands, fewer sets by each band, fewer stages all makes me much less excited about it.

I don't think the experience really is going to be that drastically different from a user perspective. I think we're going to get about as long a day of music as before, just a bit less selection... Of course if it is and you don't like it let them know!

Also I am not sure if Pollstar is a good indicator of who is actually playing which day as Marco is listed every day which just doesn't seem likely...

Cool though I would love to get Davis or The Slip to get a headlining late night set. The Slip got one in 2001, and Slip and Davis did one in 2004 as well. I think I missed most of those though the details are a bit foggy...

Davis late night opening for ALO 7/3

everything must go
roses and bottles
when a woman
sissyfuss
sleepyhead
summer of my fall
I'm no good at all
when a little boy
I hate love
one sick knave
new (papa came rolling home)
I want to get to heaven
fat king of gods
home away from home
