Kaki King 6-8-05 @ Club Passim

Post: # 5225Post Big Bob »

There was an early show (8) and a late show (10). This slightly confused me and I showed up for most of Kaki's set from the early show. She was playing well, but obviously wasnt too into it. The crowd seemed a little uptight. I hadn't seen enough so I stayed for the late show as well. Jackie Greene played an opening set before Kaki came on again.

The crowd for the second show was much more relaxed, and Kaki seemed to appreciate it. She played some incredible stuff that I hadn't heard before, at least some of which was brand new. People were amazed (as usual), including a friend who hadn't heard much by her before.

there were several highlights (every song she played) but the final song she played was Carmine St. (3rd song from Everybody Loves You) and it was intense. I loved every moment. It was the third time I had seen her and definitely the most enjoyable.

I've heard people say that they dislike her banter between songs but I find her to be rather hysterical. I've also heard stories about her having a less-than-pleasant attitude towards people on more than one occasion, but I have no personal experience with such things.

If you have never seen her live before, it is definitely something worth checking out at least once

Did she tell you the story about the hamburger she had in Harvard Square before the show? She told that one tonight in Northampton. I do think she should be more careful about what she sais between tunes. I also find it funny though. She mentioned it was her monthly girl time tonight as well. I bet thats why you said she did seem into it...

D,

She said it more point blank if I recall too. I just don't feel comfortable saying like that. I feel like I should edit that shit from the recording but I'm not sure I will.

Haha, yes she told story about the hamburger in Harvard Sq. and she also mentioned it was her 'monthly girl time.' I hear what you're saying about how she should keep her mouth shut about some things, but I always enjoy a good laugh.

edit: Clinton, did she play any Gwen Stefani covers in Northampton? She played two on Wednesday (Hollaback Girl i think is the name of one of them)
