The EQ is very sensitive, too...third octave (I think) and killer VUE on the StudioPro skin (my favorite).
Takes a bit to install then d/l the CODECs (I use MP3 which is built in, Ogg, FLAC, SHN and a few others which are rarely seen).
The ripper is also primo and can do error-free rips and if you buy the s/w you get the RAM ripper which is super fast (20x speed on my ageing Dell).
The Music Library component is advanced for sorting and some organizing, but WinAmp is better for playlists and visuals. If you want a player for sound quality, CODEC diversity and accurate rips, get dbPowerAmp.

I've got and love dbPowerAmp for MP3/WAV stuff, but never thought to check for a shn codec.
I tried to download and install it on my way out the door this morning and it didn't seem to work, but I'm sure that's because I was rushing. I'll look into that more carefully and get that to work because I agree with you - dbPowerAmp is great.
Sometimes these can be tricky. I had to install SHN, then reinstall dbPowerAmp over that to get it to work. Just keep reinstalling in various orders...I can't remember the secret formula. Same with the pro skin. There's a discussion board at Illustrate that might explain better. Spoon! is da man. Gotta thank your fellow aussies, and I strongly recommend kicking down for the high-speed RAM ripper (this is how they support the product and keep revisions coming).
I haven't delved into the new beta and other CODECs much, but plan on upgrading the whole suite next year.
Ahhh...Sammy Kininger just came on my player. The sax funkmaster kicks it with Nikki. Great album. Visions of Wally's. She's with Beyonce now. People sometimes move on (and up).

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, this little project will need to be back burnered while I shop for:
-a new computer (this one made it clear last night that it will not last much longer)
and
-a new furnace (our 17-yr. old Yukon Husky gave up the ghost last week and it's gettin' kind of chilly)
