"Kafka on the Shore" is a great one but I might recommend "The Wind Up Bird Chronicle" or "Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" first. Love all his stuff though. Just about to start "After Dark."

It's from his article Gaps in the Mind, which was included in A Devil's Chaplain, and was first published in in Peter Singer's The Great Ape Project.Anonymous-francis wrote:pete,
where is that richard dawkins quote from?
There seems to be a fairly accurate transcription here.
I guess I may as well add that nearly everything Dawkins writes is worth reading. The Selfish Gene is at least my third favorite book of all time.

i have been slowly working my way through 'the god delusion'. i just came across 'the selfish gene', which i will probably read after i finish the first one.
thanks for all of the recommendations. hopefully these helped others find something they want to read.
i was recommended 'geek love' by katherine dunn over on the duo boards. it seems interesting, so that may be my next read. luckily, a friend of mine has a copy.

I loved "Kafka on the Shore". I've been reading a lot of Tom Robbins lately. even his non-fiction short writings are hilarious!
