I've been cleaning up my PC's hard drive lately, and came across a recording I made of The Slip in Montreal back in May, 2004. I couldn't find any other torrents of the show (I know Weirdness recorded it, but I don't know if he ever torrented his source), so I decided to offer it up before I backed it up to CD-R:
d1t01 intro jam >
d1t02 Get Me With Fuji
d1t03 Fear Of Falling
d1t04 Wolof >
d1t05 The Shouters
d1t06 Out On The Weekend[1]
d1t07 Poor Boy
d1t08 Predicting The Rain
d2t01 banter
d2t02 River Sang To Buddha[2]
d2t03 Soft Machine
d2t04 banter
d2t05 Ode To Joy > Happy Snails[3]
d2t06 banter
d2t07 Children Of December
d2t08 call for encore
d2t09 Dogs On Bikes
d2t10 call for another encore
d2t11 If One Of Us Should Fall
[1] Neil Young cover (instrumental) - Brad introduced Neil as, "One of the best humans, who happened to be Canadian."
[2] Still actually untitled.
[3] Mr. Meowskers on shakers.
Notes:
1. The venue has a U-shaped second floor/balcony; the mics were placed about 18" apart at the bottom of the 'U'.
2. There were disc changes after d1t07 and d2t07.
3. The levels are a bit low.
Thanks, everybody. I also recorded the opening act at that show, Grand Theft Bus, from Fredericton, NB; they're on the Live Music Archive (here), and I uploaded my recording:
As far as I know, I was the only one who recorded them that night, and I actually think it sounds quite a bit better than my Slip recording. (GTB also headlined their own show in Ottawa the previous night; my recording of them that night is available here.)
Thrice you have rescued me from falling grace;
once when I was a beggar and you were the rain on my face,
once when I was crippled and you carried me,
and once when the blindness of others taught me how to see.
i wish there was some more older slip videos on youtube, id be nice to a video of this show pop up one day or maybe some of the footage will make it onto that documentary of the band brad was talking about at one of the 2007 shows, itd be neat to see a video log of all the different transitions they've gone through musically but...who knows if anything will ever come of it...
