Hi Folks,
Enjoy Jim James solo set from this weekend's Newport Folk Festival. M. Ward sits in for a few tunes. The set is a great morning selection

This was a crazy set. There was terrential downpour that started during the She & Him set right before JJ's set. He sat in with them for a great version of M Wards "One Magic Trick" btw. People were packed into the tent he played at. I myself was just on the border of the rain and was soaked to the bone. But alas, it cleared up mid set and allowed for more comfortable space to sway in. Highlights included a "Golden" with Ward and 3 tunes he did with this toy keyboard. Especially "What a Wonderful Man" and "Anytime" - both of which I never really could understand the lyrics to until I heard these versions. This guy does it all. He can rock out with the best of them and still break your heart. He won the crowd over (the people that didnt know him before anyway) and stole the festy in my opinion. He played some new tunes from Evil urges that worked really well as solo songs, especially "Librarian". At the end he put on this sped up drum loop (via the toy keyboard) and packed up his guitar and walked off stage while receiving a standing ovation - a great exit
Later that night after the bars let out I was walking down the street and saw Jim James and M Ward (with a guitar in hand) walking with some friends - I'm not sure if they did a stealth gig somewhere in newport.
Jim James Set: Tonight I want to Celebrate with You*, Sec Walkin, It Beats 4 U, Feel so Wonderful**^, Golden**, Look at you**, Librarian, Burmuda Highway, The Way that He Sings, What a WOnderful Man*, You Are Who You Are^, Hopefully, Smoking From Shooting, Gideon, ANytime*
* played on a toy keyboard. **w/ M Ward ^ not sure of title. Set List may be out of order and missing some songs - but you can always stream it to correct me!
For those who care:
Trey Solo Set: Brian & Robert, Farmhouse, Water in the Sky, Let Me Lie, Bouncin Round the Room, Heavy Things, If I Could Be a Sailor*, Mountains in the Mist, Sleep Again, Back on the Train, Peggy**, Waste, Shine, Bathtub Gin, Wilson
E: Sample in a Jar > Chalkdust Torture
* old original co-written with Tom Marshall (who was watching from the side of the stage) that had never been played before. Dedicated to the folks listening from their boats. ** another never before played tune - dedicated to Tom Marshall.

I feel the same way. It was nice to hear some classic phish tunes but they work WAY better with Phish playing them! Jim can pull off both solo and MMJ stuff equally as well.

Wonderful (The Way I Feel) is not any of the "touch Me"s. Not sure whose song it is. "Magic Trick" was the only M Ward song in she and him's set
