Anyone get the lyrics for England yet?
I've tried to get some of them, but brad's voice is drowned in some reverb or doubling, so it's a little hard to tell some of the lines. Anyone have any luck or get them from brad at all?
England may keep the faith
for what's been done and said
we know their dreams enough to know
they dreamed and they are dead
England may keep the faith
for what's been done and said
we know their dreams enough to know
they've dreamed and they are dead
Too long,
too long to sacrifice
can make a coldstone of the heart
but when will it suffice
That is heaven's part, our part
to name the name upon the name
like a mother names her babe
when rest at last has come
on limbs that have a while (??)
what is it but nightfall
oh no not but the death (???)
and a needless death after all
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am not totally sure on a lot of the exact words, particularly in the last stanza. Anyone with better information than me, please chime in, because I think these words are important. In general, I'd guess this is a song about war but I honestly have no idea. A very haunting, mysterious song indeed.
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
i just got the high sierra set, and brad's voice is much clearer than the other versions I have from the world cafe, the dise and so on.
Sounds like "on dreams that have run wide" and "Oh no, not night, but the death"
But the dreams line sounds like limbs sometimes, too. I'm lost on those two lines, too.
I always heard it as "England, man, keep the faith" like England is a persons name, not the country. But seeing the "may" makes more sense...i guess
"if there's one thing I know to be true, let what you love be what you do"
Pretty good transcription there. Just a couple of tweaks... (taken from the Ironhorse show)
Too long. Too long a sacrifice can make a cold stone of the heart, but when will it suffice?
On limbs that have run wild what is it but nightfall?
