They did that one back in June at Le Divan Orange in Montreal, and the title of it that night was "If You Leave Me."bear wrote:Water & Bread**
** new song, not sure of title. first line was "You make me suffer as easy as you make the bed."
Aloha,
Brad
Great show, cool new (to me) venue. Check out a brief write up here: www.whatilikeissounds.blogspot.com. Didn't notice any tapers, did anyone else? Check out this band if you have a chance.
i didn't notice any tapers either.
I dont think this is weak sauce at all. These are quality songs that are intended to be mellow, beautiful, and thought provoking. And I dont find "Give the Devil" and "Lord I Cant Keep from crying" to be mellow at all. It is a side-project and is not called The Slip for a very good reason. And honestly, at this point I'm more excited about seeing this stuff than Children of December for the umteenth time.

if you think this is 'weak sauce' then you definitely haven't seen Sarah and Brad rip on deacon's son yet. that was my favorite part of the set.
plus, seeing Andrew playing the cuica and other little percussion throughout was great and made the set feel like an old slip jam at times. loved the venue, however it was almost impossible to find and missed the first few tunes unfortunately.
who will be at house of blues?

Weak sauce. Ha. I'm past trying to explain to people why they should like the stuff that I like. But I can say that these guys are better than good, that they get the music, the play the music, and that what they're doing is beyond special.
I mean sure, I'd love to hear the Slip do something new. But like Bear said, do you really want to hear them churn out another show of the same material? The fact is that musicians, if they're for real, grow and evolve and learn and change and the only way to get anything worthwhile out of them is to let them play what they're feeling. This is why no one plays Free Bird. OK, one or two guys do, but that's because they're feeling it. I think that what thr Barr bros are feeling right now is the Barr Bros. And I'm glad, because I'm feeling it too. I had an awesome time on Sunday, and I think everyone else whould get out and see these guys.
Even when they lay back, they rip.

The world really is magic
Yeah,
I was not disappointed in the slightest. Definitely got some nostalgic slip-like vibes during the show. And a few of the tunes lent themselves to being rocked pretty hard.
Also, I loved the new tunes that I hadn't heard before. Some beautiful lyrics.
Is the cuica that squeeky thing that andrew rubs back and forth? I loved seeing/hearing that again. It's been a while.

I hear both sides... I love the Barr Brothers they deliver some beautiful songs oh so well, but of course I miss the slip. I do disagree though that all they were doing was the umpteenth take of children of December. We have been hearing consistently new stuff from the slip even in their limited gigs In the past 3 years or so. Post eisenhower you have songs like broke the promised land, there's a lie, all I saw was you, portrait of a scientist, black telephone, ooh belle, gaunt debutante, England, that love ain't enough, give the devil, etc.... The slip needs to get an album out a asap and get some tour dates on the calendar. I am not holding my breath - expecting more barr bros and Davis, both of which i love but neither of which make me miss the slip less.
Thanks for the heads up that the blog link I posted above was wrong - it's www.whatilikeissounds.blogspot.com -- check it out! In addition to the Barr Bros, there are also recent posts about Club D'Elf, the Elastic Waste Band, and other mostly Boston-area music Slip fans might like. Let me know you visited by leaving a comment...
