last night the barr brothers opened up for 2010 polaris prize winners, karkwa.
setlist:
deacon's son
beggar in the morning
old mythologies
kisses from chelsea
give the devil back his heart
if you leave me
this was definitely the tightest set i've ever seen them play. no harp solo from sarah on deacon's son. all of brad's solos were quite short and concise and really well played. they really didn't jam out any of the songs which was probably a good idea considering it wasn't really the crowd for that kind of thing. i only looked back at the end of the set, but the venue was more or less full (lee's has a 600 person capacity) and the barrs were very well received. it was probably the best sounding set they've played in toronto to date.

Concise is a very good word to describe their act, though. It's always intriguing to watch them, but they are by no means the Slip. I don't think that's the aim, though. Sometimes I wish they'd bust out a few more tunes they've turned into their own adaptations...the Ride On cover from the 1-13-2010 show is a good example of that. As a side note, I can say as a person who does not like AC/DC, Brad's made me appreciate them more.
I wonder when we can expect them to come back to Boston?
