Share some new(ish) albums you've been listening to lately

Post: # 24848Post lucasdavidsamuels »

I think we're all probably in need of some new albums. Please share 5 records (and a bit about each) you've been listening to a lot lately. Here's mine (they can all be found on iTunes I believe).

The Treasures - Bring the Night Home
Alt-country band from Toronto. Impeccable multi-part harmonies, smoky pedal steel. Takes a few listens but will grow on you big time. My cousin is in the band, they've been working on this album for like 3 years and finally released it. It's unreal.

PRO ERA - PEEP the aPROcalypse
Mixtape from Joey Bada$$ and his Pro Era crew. Great oldschool hip-hop vibe from this group of up-and-comers

Phosphorescent - Muchacho
Another alt-country record. Probably Phosp's coolest record yet. Plenty of interesting electronic sounds layered on a traditional country vibe.

Generationals - Heza
Upbeat indie pop from this New Orleans duo.

Japandroids - Celebration Rock
My favourite record to work out to. Big rock and roll sounds from this Vancouver guitar-drum-duo.

Definitely more on the ish side of New-ish, but I've been enjoying Lonerism by Tame Imapala recently. Actually, their entire discography to date. Psychedelic music fits springtime pretty well. The songs really have a "blooming" quality to them. Great use of modulation effects, synths, etc.

Lonerism is an awesome record.

Ducktails - The Flower Lane is excellent background music for working. It's pretty much 80s soft rock with a bit of an edge. Still a decent enough listen though. Real Estate fans should check it out.

I think Youth Lagoon has a new album out, too. Not quite like Real Estate, but still the kind of lo-fi thing. New album is called Wondrous Bughouse. I haven't had a chance to spin it yet.

Shmu - Discipline/communication (free download) http://shmu.bandcamp.com/album/discipline-communication
related: Zorch (songs- Cosmic Gloss, EMU, Zut Alore!) - These guys give the Duo a run for their money, i have to say. They are a drums/keys duo, and man can they rock. Lots of super fast drumming and psychadelic keyboard stuff

Born Ruffians - birthmarks - indie-pop stuff. somewhat predictable but cool songs, guy has a good voice too

Tame Impala - Lonerism - i can't get tired of this. I listen to this and innerspeaker together all the time

Atoms for Peace - Amok - yep. dThom unchained. It's awesome stuff

AM & Shawn Lee - bear with me on this description, but it's like postal service meets led zeppelin... great drumming throughout album, nice meaty guitar tones too, great vocals and melodies. good stuff to pair with Tame Impala.

I've also heard a few cuts from a band called "Spinto Band" - Shake it Off and Jackhammer, they seem to have "it" whatever "it" is...

The Shouting Matches - Grownass Man

Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver) gets his blues group back together, in a trio format this time.

Kevin Breit and the Upper York Mandolin Orchestra - Field Recording

Kevin's probably known most outside of the Greater Toronto Area for having done session work with people like Norah Jones, he was also in the touring band of Hugh Laurie (aka TV's "Dr. House"). He's done about 10 records with Sisters Euclid, all of which are streamable and buyable at
