There is a little bit of a difference between d/l a leaked album by a band that is established and has a contract and one that doesn't. This is not the case but in short if this was leaked and a somewhat large percentage of the fan base had d/l from P2P no record company would want anything to do with signing the band. THAT is the number one difference between d/l this album and something else.
I just want to add that I don't know the "current" status of anything. I've probably said more than I should have too. My statements are not facts, they are examples. But this is the scoop. I do know for sure that this would be a thousand times worse than the even rats track getting out.

C'tone, you're absolutely right any scenerio like that could have harmful outcomes, I think we all care about keeping that from happenning. My point, was more to the extent that it doesn't do any good to have us furthering any rumours. We'd be better off not making a bigger deal out of it and letting the people who need to deal with it do their thing. And I wish them the best at that, I'm just trying to turn my head to the gossip.

Graffiti is obsolete
Ok you jokers, listen to Katie damn it! Also, it seems like people have a penchant for stating the obvious (Pat) as we all know Graffiti sucks moose cock -- that's why we have this nicer box of gravel. Graffiti is too arcane to be overhauled (I have seen and worked on the source code, it's not pretty). phpBB is the standard everyone is using, it's plug 'n' play and sites are cheap these days. The problem is not just the tecchie stuff, it's abandoning that old red friend (I think, other things I know are much more complex than will fit in this little corner of the world).
Now about the post being in China -- that's also part of the joke. China is notorious for bootlegging. However, it will affect publicity a lot worse by just leaving that post up, then it's even worse by overreacting by telling fans not to steal the friggin' thing! That kills trust. I said kill, that's a strong word. I'm sorry, I should use a different word: maim. It's like a chicken running around with its head cut off (but it cures most migraines ).
Cleantone has some of his own points ("I've probably said more than I should have too") and I fully understand, but again these worries encourage the joker-smoker who posted the crap in the first place. The right thing is delete the post (I'll say it again). Or just ignore it. For satan's sake don't post the URLs! These may have JavaScript trojans or worse and for all you retards who still use Explorer don't say I didn't warn you! (Get Firefox Here ).
(Actually, Explorer usage on this site has dropped dramatically from over 90% to under 60%, so I know those 30% are pretty sharp or at least can pretend like the rest of us.)
Now Katie speaks wisdom: the risk of not being able to delete posts is far greater than any bootleg anal leakage. I can illustrate, but then people won't like me so much. Noone's really done anything *nasty* to Graffiti -- just some blather and crappy poetry (Tremulan excepted) -- a stupid one-liner about bootlegging doesn't even qualify as nasty. The stuff over on TSP is *almost* nasty, but these all have easy solutions (edit/delete).
That is why God invented Moderation, and I thank Him for it.
If there's no "delete" button, then someone needs to pony up 10 bucks a month to get Graffiti a face-lift. I'd offer SlipLive and the nice red background that Jeff worked out, but I'm having second thoughts after getting comments from more than three people that they like being able to say whatever here and only have to worry about the Mods. This is like sharing the wealth versus delegation -- I'm happy we have Mod's who have brought the board to order -- and we don't seem to have a problem in either direction (or the Mods are deleting the porn spam faster than I can read it ;-}).
Now Cleantone, this one's for you: focus your energy on positive thoughts. Fear is the mind-killer. Being scared about bootleggers is going to make it happen. They get a rise out of the worry factor, so if you say "yeah, whatever, be my guest", they will lose their little smidgen of power. People feel like they have power by getting others to overreact (in my opinion, BAM management took this way too seriously and that is worse publicity than the stupid ass-clown who make the original post).
Just look at all the commotion this has caused. In essence, this is a sign that people care so strongly, and some stupid little kid isn't going to stop what is a brilliantly cohesive community from sticking up for each other. I know we'll all buy copies of whatever comes out. I know lots of people and none of them have asked me for anything for free (except for bootlegs, but they come to shows now and buy the commercial CDs, so I know that works). In a way, the commotion is better than boredom...maybe that's the reason why these seemingly "bad" things happen.
But Diesel has a very good point and that is this release and others are taking way too long. Maybe the joker poster was making a stink about this in his own way and wanted to see the reaction. Because the email is found on some Chinese website doesn't mean it's some international conspiracy. That could be someone who loves BAM but can't see them anymore, and they're pissed there's no new studio material to buy (hopefully soon, though).
I would spend the time hyping the release and working on the liner notes and photos. I want artwork, too. I'm demanding like that, but I'll buy it anyways. I'm just trying to help sell copy because I know what works (I was a record producer in a former life).
Personally, I wish people would say more because the talk generates enthusiasm which generates sales. A bit of hype at the right moments is a very good thing. It's not some giant mushroom cloud...this is a friggin' music album for chrissakes. And when is everyone going to be weaned off Graffiti? It is plain red evil!
Now in dissing Graffiti I'm not dissing the band. I'll always love BAM, but I think Graffiti is like a virus waiting to happen. It's already exhibiting virus-like behavior (parasitic, that is, do I need to pull up Wikipedia?).
Is "sucks" a too-strong word? Ok, how about "crapulent"?
Ok, I'm going to d/l some Slip from Napster. Talk to you sooner.

P.S.: I apologize to everyone for shortening any of my previous posts. I'll try to not let that happen again. I'm not getting soft, mind you, just letting you know I can also write in haiku if I put my mind to it.
Copy this quick because I might edit it tomorrow.
You know before boards people used to use their memories. Funny how that is. Now were are my goddamn car keys?
