vinyl appreciation

so a week ago i finally broke down and bought a turntable. i had been meaning to do so for a while because of the upcoming SMMD LP and after finding a good deal at circuit city i decided it was time to make the jump...anywho, the thing rocks and i now have exactly what i didn't need...another addiction. it's only been a week and i'm already obsessing over finding all my favorite albums on wax, it's like baseball card collecting for audiophiles. some people say it's still the only way to listen to music and i'm seeing where they're coming from. it's a great sound hearing the crackle of the needle when it hits the wax, followed the opening notes of your favorite album. i think it really makes you a more captive listener too and honestly, 'a love supreme' has never sounded better.IMO, it's definitely an investment worth making if your a hardcore music fan and i would assume you are if you find yourself in these parts...

I agree 100%... and we have some unbelievable record stores in Pittsburgh too... you've never heard bitches brew til you hear it on vinyl...

Damn it. You just reminded me of the few hundred records I had to give to a buddy when I left Florida. I had no room to drive with them and they were too heavy to ship. I really regret not grabbing my favorites too. Shit I'd put the Phish ones I had on ebay in a heartbeart right now. Pay for my gas for the next two shows I bet. Damnit.

There was a store in Burlington that one on the wall for a while with a sign that said "$250+, make an offer". I wonder if anyone ever did...

I bought us a new record player for Christmas a few years ago too. There's definitely something to be said for being able to listen to older music in the medium it was meant for. Not to mention you occasionally come across some pretty good deals since not a lot of people actually listen to records anymore and just have them sitting around collecting dust. A month ago we stumbled across a bunch of Led Zeppelin albums (including III with the fun cover art) , The Wall, some Talking Heads, and a bunch of others for $1 each.

Jesus. Was it Lawnboy? I could see that one going for close to that. I had Farmhouse and Story of the Ghost. I would have been happy with $10-20.

I want to say it was Story of The Ghost. Although the price was probably inflated because it's Burlington. We had a Lawnboy Puzzle when I worked at the headshop in Harvard Square... that was nuts, a puzzle of all grass pieces?! But I digress...

So I've had a copy of Moondance probably all my life, since it was my mom's and it pre-dates me by a few years, and I've always loved putting it on, hearing that crackle, and the the way And It Stoned Me explodes, but in that softish non-nuculer(!) way it has, like a slow-moving shot out of a cannon, a shot made of cotton instead of lead. MMMMmmmmmmm. I am five.
